ADULT LEADER GUIDELINES TROOP 803
The following guidelines should be adhered to as closely as possible by all adult "Scouters."
  1. Read and know the "Youth Protection Guidelines" included in the front of the Boy Scout Handbook.
  2. Follow the "Rule of Two" - Without at least two adult leaders and two Boy Scouts, there can be no outing or activity.
  3. There should be no one-on-one leader to boy contact out of sight of the Troop or other adult leaders. Exceptions include emergencies and conferences with Merit Badge Counselors
  4. Discipline should be firm, but reasonable. Use silent signals as much as possible.  For serious infractions, obtain all the facts first before taking action. Always control your temper and voice. Striking or other physical contact is strictly prohibited and could be cause for expulsion.  Work with the adult leader in charge (SM or ASM) to enforce order and discipline. If there is a question about whether a behavior is appropriate or permissible, talk to the SM or ASM. Any behavior which endangers the Scout or others or violates the rights of others should be stopped immediately.
  5. No profanity at any time under any circumstances. Discourage the use of profanity by boys and correct them when overheard.
  6. Alcohol is strictly prohibited on all campouts, outings, and on St. Louis Boy Scout Council Property (Beaumont, S-F Ranch, etc.).
  7. Smoking is discouraged on campouts. If you do smoke, please be discrete and not in front of the Scouts.
  8. Uniformed leaders should wear the official uniform to all Troop functions and events including Troop meetings, and Courts of Honor. Wear the uniform when driving to and from campouts and summer camps.
  9. All uniformed adult leaders are strongly encouraged to go through the BSA Adult Leader Basic Training offered by the St. Louis Council. For dates and other information, contact the Committee Chairman.
  10. When on a campout, follow the rules of the camp. Follow the patrol method and duty roster, and assist where needed. Participate in troop and patrol activities. Stay with the troop or your assigned patrol for the duration of an activity. Do not leave camp, with or without your son, for any reason without first notifying the SM or other adult leader. Do not leave camp early before camp is broken, all equipment has been accounted for and properly stowed, and permission has been granted by the SM or other adult leader in charge. Respect equipment belonging to others and to the troop.
Most of these guidelines are just good common sense. By adhering to these guidelines, we will help to ensure a high quality program and provide the best possible example for the Scouts.
I, the undersigned, have read and agree to abide by the guidelines set forth above:
